MG has expanded its electric range with the launch of the updated ZS EV this month, with the EV SUV now offered in two variants.
The Excite opens the range at $44,990 drive-away, undercutting the rival BYD Atto 3 in some states (though its rival matches that price in Tasmania), while the flagship Essence is priced at $47,990 drive-away.
That’s cheaper than the $46,990 and $49,990 sticker prices announced earlier this year. It also makes the Excite the same price as the single pre-update variant, though now you’ll need to step up to the Essence to get features like a panoramic sunroof and rear cross-traffic alert.
There’s a fresh new look and more range than before, with the ZS EV now offering 320km of range on the stricter WLTP cycle – up from 263km, and matching the standard-range Atto 3.
There’s also a new software architecture called iSmart, backed by Amazon’s AWS cloud-based system, which supports over-the-air updates, remote control of the locks and air-conditioning, Amazon Music streaming, and live weather and traffic updates.
“Our 7 year Warranty is comprehensive across both ICE, Electric and Batteries with no hidden exclusions,” said MG Motor Australia and New Zealand CEO Peter Ciao, which could be interpreted as a dig at rival BYD.
“All of our 83 dealerships in Australian are trained to sell and service all our products and our customers appreciate this level of service and offering.”
MG is also offering home AC chargers, with its 7kW Chargehub costing $1990 and its 11kW unit costing $2090. Both prices exclude fitment costs.
The company will introduce a second EV to Australia in the first half of next year in the new MG 4, a small electric hatchback riding a new architecture.
While the local range has yet to be detailed, the MG 4 has been revealed in both single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrains.
